KRK Rokit RP5 G2 5 inch studio monitors!

A good friend of the blog, (! sense !) asked for my summary of the KRK RP5 G2 Rokit studio monitors (or something similar but here we go)
These KRK speakers feature an 8" inch glass aramid composite subwoofer and a 1" neodyum soft dome tweeter with ferro fluid. Solid design features that contribute to the nice build, which features rubberised footing on the bottom of the enclosure to reduce low-frequency coupling.

How do they sound? Loud. 140w per side in fact! There's no sane reason to bring these to full volume indoors, but the juice is there if you really need to. For such small units, this is an incredible punch for your price!



The KRK RP5 G2 Rokit has a low end frequency cut-off of about 52Hz. The higher end is extremely detailed, helped no end buy the quality of the tweeter which is not seen often in more budget speakers like this.
The controls are located on the back of the unit which features a generous amount of inputs: RCA unbalancced, Balanced 1/4 inch jack and XLR.
You get a high frequency adjustment pot for minor tweaks to the responce and a volume pot measured in dB.

behringer ms16 active monitors

These Behringer MS16 monitors may be the audiophile/musician on a budget's best bet!
They feature high power ampifiers that drive the 4" woofers and high resolution tweeters.
Two stereo line inputs are provided to connect other products such as iPods or mp3 players and the best thing is they are available to be used simultaneously.
They are magnetically shielded as you have come to expect from a trusted brand such as Behringer and they put out 8 watts per side which will fill smaller rooms easily!
There is a seperately adjustable 4" mic input which is a very cool feature for these speakers.
For the low end of the spectrum, these are the best value monitors you'll get for your money, and many users will tell you about how well they fit into their setup.

YAMAHA HS50M Active Studio Monitor

Hi guys, sorry for the downtime. Busy with University and filling in for my friend's old band in preparation for a tour in March, but that's another story.

Today I'd like to show you a studio classic, the widely respected
Yamaha HS50M active studio monitor.

This two way monitor is priced individually and puts out 70 watts of power on a single side. Definitely a powerful number to say the least. Individual amps are used for both the woofer and the tweeter. The volume pot is tucked away on the back of the unit, along with XLR and TRS inputs for standard connections.

The speaker casing is attractive, with a distinctive 5" woofer and a 3/4" tweeter encased in a bass reflex system to make the low end that much punchier.

On the back end of the speaker, hardened audiophiles are bound to be impressed with the EQ switches available. There are switches to scoop or boost the mid-range by 2dB for your engineering preference, a room control switch which can reduce unwanted resonances in your studio by cutting out the lower and mainly unused frequencies, a high trim, which obviously reduces the higher frequencies and a low cut to adjust the lower end of the spectrum to your liking.

Tannoy Reveal 501A Active Studio Monitor

Hi guys, sorry for the lack of posts in the last couple days!
Today I've been looking at the lovely Tannoy Reveal 501A monitors.
These things flaunt a frequency responce of 64hz-30khz.
The power amp puts out 60w so that's 30w a side! Quite a loud pair of speakers for your money! As a bonus, you get a trim switch which helps you adjust the monitors to your environment or listening preferences.
The volume control is also neatly tucked away at the back alongside the Balanced XLR and unbalanced jack connectors.
These are quite chunky, at a height of 30cm, but this is necessary to get the maximum amount of resonance as some of you audiophiles may know!

ADAM Audio A7

Today, I got something in a little pricier than my previous review subjects, the stunning ADAM Audio A7 Powered monitors.
Although pricier than my previous reviews, the clarity is something else on these things.
They feature a carbon fibre woofer and a solid structure.
You have a choice of an unbalanced phono or balanced XLR input, as well as some fixed EQ controls in the back, so you can fiddle with the overall sound a little which is a nice choice.
These monitors offer a 46hz to 35khz frequency response which is ambitious, but you can feel the lows in your belly, which is always nice!
Each side features an independant 50 watt amplifier which allows for these speakers to push a whole lot of air with an impressive level of clarity.

Behringer Truth B1031A

Today I'm taking a closer look at one of Behringer's best-sellers: the Truth B1031A. These speakers are one of the most talked about products in the recording industry, and it's not hard to tell why. As the name suggests, these speakers are designed to tell you the truth - and as a serious audiophile and home producer myself, I can confirm that Behringer has outdone themselves on this occasion.

The Truth B1031A speakers feature high resolution single dome tweeters and Kevlar-coned woofers, which produce a well-rounded flat frequency response which is essential for getting an accurate representation of the track you're working on.

Taking a look at the sleek exterior, the bright yellow kevlar woofer stands out and looks plain cool, Behringer mention themselves that the Truth B1031A features an extremely large "sweet spot" - or the optimal point of listening so you can hear every valuable nuance of your mix.

 These speakers are active and are powered by precision class A/B amplifiers which are solid and pack a punch. A/B amplifiers basically mean that the woofer and tweeter are powered seperately, 50w for the low end and 25w for the high.

All in all, I found this speaker to be incredible value, especially when it's available online for so cheap, for example, it's available for just $142.99 on Amazon, pretty good considering you're saving $157, that's more than 50%.

Yamaha MSP3

The Yamaha MSP3 is an elegant set of monitors I managed to get my hands on last week.
It is a compact set-up, featuring a 10cm woofer and 2.2cm tweeter. These beauties are active so no external amplification is required, making the MSP3s ideal for home studio enthusiasts or producers on a budget. The compact size allows portability, and the logical inputs on the back (XLR, phone jack, RCA) make the user experience more friendly.
Although small, the MSP3 puts out 20 watts of power, reasonable for medium sized monitoring areas or studios.
Ceiling and wall mounts are also available (sold seperately), showing that these monitors are serious with a big sound and a hard, accurate punch.
